In many ways, modern #management demonstrates one of two underpinning virtuous circles, one performance enhancing the other performance reducing. These #performance circles can act on individuals, teams, departments or whole companies and organisations, so it is possible for both to exist at the same time but usually one prevails. These circles are often called, albeit often appropriately, “the company culture”. A former health care assistant has been ordered to pay a total of £1,715 in fines and costs after pleading guilty to offences of unlawfully obtaining and disclosing personal data. The Information Commissioner(ICO) said that the assistant had accessed the medical records of 29 people without a business purpose to do so. Some of the information was subsequently shared with others. That was a breach of patient confidentiality and an unlawful act under the Data Protection Act. The ICO points out that those who work with personal data need to know that they can’t just access it or share it with others when they feel like it and the employer’s policy should make that clear. Publication of the BBC's presenter remuneration rates has highlighted wide differences in the monies paid to male and female presenters doing similar roles. The adage all publicity is good publicity might not be quite so true on this occasion. The ongoing trend of worsening inspection results within General FE colleges continues. Just 68% of general FE colleges inspected were rated good or outstanding in recent inspections, a drop of 9% points on the 2015 average. More information can be found here
